Standard Response Protocol

The District utilizes the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by the I Love U Guys Foundation in collaboration with law enforcement.

The Standard Response Protocol is based not on individual scenarios, but on the response to any given scenario. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP demands a specific vocabulary but also allows for great flexibility.

Standard Response Protocol

There are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these actions, each is followed by a “Directive.”  Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders.

School staff are empowered to utilize the actions that best fit the specifics of their circumstance, acknowledging that conditions on one end of a large building may be different than the other end.  Staff have been trained in these actions and in the decision-making process to maximize the safety of both staff and students.

Return to School Safety

Hold: "In Your Classroom or Area"

May be used for medical emergency or event in the hallway or a law enforcement request for locker searches.

Students:

  • Clear the hallways and remain in room or area until the "All Clear" is announced

  • Continue school day

Adults and staff:

  • Close and lock classroom/area door/s

  • Account for students and adults

  • Continue the school day

Secure: "Get Inside. Lock Outside Doors."

May be used for law enforcement activity such as serving warrants in a nearby location or the report of dangerous wildlife in the area.

Students:

  • Return to inside of building

  • Continue the school day

Adults and staff:

  • Bring everyone indoors

  • Lock the outside doors

  • Increase situational awareness

  • Account for students and adults

  • Continue the school day

Lockdown: "Locks, Lights, Out of Sight"

Used when there are threats inside the school or there is an emergency or dangerous situation very near the building.

Students:

  • Move away from sight

  • Maintain silence

  • Keep the door closed

Adults and staff:

  • Recover students from hallway if possible

  • Lock the classroom door

  • Turn out the lights

  • Move away from sight

  • Maintain silence

  • Keep the door closed

  • Prepare to evade or defend

Evacuate: "To a Location"

Students and staff are moved to a new or safe location due to a situation in or near the school building. Examples: Gas leak in the school; unsafe situation near school affecting release times.

Students:

  • Leave stuff behind if required to

  • If possible, bring their phone

  • Follow instructions

Adults and staff:

  • Bring roll sheet and Go Bag (unless instructed not to bring anything with them, dependent on the reason for evacuation)

  • Lead students to Evacuation location

  • Account for students and adults

  • Report injuries or problems using Red Card/Green Card method

  • Increase situational awareness

  • Account for students and adults

  • Continue the school day

Shelter: "State Hazard and Safety Strategy"

Students and staff are instructed to take safe shelter due to a situation in or near the school. Examples: Tornado or other natural events.

Students:

  • Appropriate hazards and safety strategies

Adults and staff:

  • Appropriate hazards and safety strategies

  • Accounting for students and staff

  • Report injuries or problems using Red Card/Green Card method
